You can collect all of the honey from a beehive at the honey super; this is the part of the beehive where most of the honey is stored. There are about eight to ten frames in each of the honey supers. Worker bees are the bees that store all the nectar into one of these honeycombs. Once the supers are already full of nectar, the beekeepers then take the honey supers from the hives then extracts the honey. All of this takes place just before winterizing the beehive,
Honey extractors consist of drums that will have a rotating wire basket; this helps with the honey harvesting process. All of the combs that the beekeeper has already uncapped are put in the drum right in the wired basket. The bee keeper will then decide if he or she is going to turn the drum using a motor or will he or she be using only the hands. The honey will then fly out of the comb and onto the drum where it will slowly drain through the spigot.
If you want to know about the shorter version of extracting honey then take a look at this article.
The first step is removing the frames.
You will need a piece of certain equipment for removing the frames from the hive to wherever you want to extract the honey. You are going to need a helmet or a veil to protect your head from stings, bee suit for protecting your body and gloves for the hands. You will need a ton of things like a smoker and a hive tool, a wheel borrow and a trash bag as well. You have to make sure you have all you need before you start extracting the honey from the beehive; make sure to have plywood to cover all empty hive bodies and frame gripper.
You need all of the equipment before you can take the super and put it in the area where the honey extracting is going to take place. You do not want a honey room full of bees; this is why you have to make sure that you remove the frames without irritating the bees.
You have to be sure that you find all of the needed equipment before you take that first frame so that things will go smoothly. Not having even one of the needed equipment is going to put you in a bad spot; everything has to be there so that everything will fall right into the plan. If you don’t want to get stung by bees then you better bring the protective gear right away plus you have to consider that the equipment you need is going to make the whole process a lot bearable as well.
